Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller, confirmed the seizures in a statement released in Lagos on Friday.

Mr Onyeka stated that the operation demonstrates the command’s commitment to intelligence-led border enforcement and adherence to trade regulations.

He elaborated that the first container, numbered HLXU8500072, originated from Montreal, Canada, and was intercepted on 4th September following an intelligence analysis.

A joint physical examination revealed 156 packets of Colorado Indica weighing 78 kilograms and 1.2 kilograms of Hashish Oil concealed within four imported vehicles.

The second container, numbered FANU312876/9, was seized on Friday, 24th October, based on actionable intelligence received by the command.

This container contained 2,081 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 1,093 kilograms and eight packages of Crystal Methamphetamine weighing eight kilograms, also hidden in four vehicles.

The total estimated value of the seized drugs stands at ₦5.304 billion, according to customs valuation reports.

Mr Onyeka stated that the narcotics have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

He expressed gratitude to the NDLEA, navy, police, and other agencies for their cooperation during the operation.

The controller emphasised that the command will remain vigilant and resolute in enforcing Nigeria’s laws and trade conventions.

He urged importers and exporters to fully comply with customs regulations and ensure accurate documentation.

Mr Onyeka also thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for his support and acknowledged the media’s role in public awareness.

Upon receiving the items, Commander of Narcotics at the NDLEA Tin Can Strategic Command, Daniel Onyishi, commended customs for its vigilance and professionalism.

Mr Onyishi noted that the operation exemplified a strong spirit of inter-agency collaboration in combating drug trafficking.

He assured that the NDLEA would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the legal disposal of the seized substances.
