The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, says it intercepted 3,453 parcels of cannabis sativa with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N435,078,000, in various locations of the state.

The Area Comptroller, Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the drugs to Olaniyi Ekundayo, commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, on Wednesday.

According to him, the quantity of intercepted cannabis sativa was achieved in six intelligence-driven operations between December 4 and Monday, across different locations.

Mr Afeni decried that the seizure of the narcotics, including Crystal Meth and cannabis sativa, was worrisome, given their reaching impact on the youth, public health, and national security.

“However, we are handing over the seized drugs to NDLEA for further investigation and action,” he said.

The area comptroller reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting smuggling activities that pose serious health and security problems to the nation.

In his response, Mr Ekundayo said that the NDLEA would continue to collaborate in the fight against illicit drugs, destroying the lives of the youth.

He commended the men and officers of the Ogun 1 Area Command for the huge seizure, noting that the drugs would have caused more disaster, especially among the youth.
