A laboratory scientist Dr Akyala Ishaku, has advocated the need for the Nasarawa State Government to establish more testing centres to curtail the spread of Coronavirus and other diseases in the state.
Dr Akyala, made the call at the weekend in an interview with journalists in Lafia, the state capital.
Dr Akyala, who is a Vaccinologist and Senior Lecturer with the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, applauded the Nasarawa state government for putting measures in place to contain the spread of coronavirus disease in the state.
According to him, Governor Abdullahi Sule, had been very proactive in putting measures in place to fight COVID 19 pandemic in the state.
According to the lab scientist, the efforts of the state government, despite it poor financial status, has been quite commendable.
He, however, noted that there were lots of areas the government needed to improve on.
“The government has done excellently well, since the prevalent of the disease in the state, but much is still expected to be put in place”
“As I speak to you, there is only one testing centre in the state, so it will not be out of place for the state to establish two or more testing centers” he said
He added that more advocacy and sensitisation campaigns were needed on the spread of the disease.
He said such campaigns better be done with the involvement of the media and practicing journalists in the State in order to disseminate the reality of the disease to the grassroots.
