The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto under the leadership of Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, has released a 30 rooms hotel to serve as isolation centre for COVID-19 cases in the state.

Sokoto is the ninth state with the highest number of confirmed cases of covid-19 in Nigeria as at the data released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday 3rd May, 2020.

In a statement through its Twitter account Monday, the Ministry of Health in the state said that the donation was done on behalf of the Catholic Diocese in the state by the Bishop.

It added that the Bishop also donated a 15 rooms hospital for managing covid-19 cases in Sokoto.

The statement reads; “The Catholic Diocese in Sokoto headed by Bishop Mathew Kukah has handed over a 30 rooms hotel for isolating suspected cases at Aliyu Jodi Road and a 15 rooms hospital for COVID-19 management at their Gidan Dare Clinic,” the tweet read.

As of Sunday evening, Nigeria recorded 2,558 cases of COVID-19, out of which 66 of them are in Sokoto.

A total of 400 persons have recovered from the disease in the country, while 87 persons have died of it.

Of the 66 cases in Sokoto, 57 are active, one has been discharged, while eight deaths have been recorded.
