The Legislative Arm of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has impeached the Council Chairman, Mohammed Iyimoga Oyige, over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.
This is coming a week after the council boss was suspended by his party, APC, a move he described as child’s play.
It was gathered that 8 out of 10 councillors of the council vote and endorsed the impeachment.
In a telephone interview with our Correspondent, Leader of the Legislative Arm Mr Luka Isaiah, alleged that the council Chairman embarked on projects involving millions of Naira without forwarding the proposals to the Legislative Arm for approval before execution.
He stated that the council chairman allegedly refused to provide the legislative arm detail breakdown of funds the local government accessed as revenue allocation from the state government since he assumed office over two years ago.
Mr. Luka Isaiah also alleged that the Chairman on three different occasions sent thugs to disrupt the house proceedings and forcefully seized the legislative mace, an action the councillors described as gross abuse of office.
In a swift reaction, the embattled Chairman Mr Mohammed Iyimoga who denied the allegation said the impeachment would not stand.
