Non-delivery of battery from China has forced the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) to postponed the date for the conduct of the Local Government Elections, Elanza News has gathered.
The election was earlier slated for July 5th 2021.
But the acting chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Sambo, disclosed on Friday during a press briefing with political parties and stakeholders that absent of battery is behind the postponement of the election.
He said the postponement was due to non readiness of sensitive materials, which included batteries of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
He said they are still awaiting for the delivery of the batteries from the manufacturers in China.
He said the shipment date for the EVM battery from China to Abuja was scheduled for between 1st- 10th July, 2021.
Explaining further, Sambo said charging of the batteries with fixing and sorting of other relevant accessories will take 14 days – from 17th July to 2nd August, 2021, respectively. While it will take two days for the distribution of sensitive election materials before the commission propose a possible election date.
Reacting to the sudden indefinite suspension of the election, PDP Secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Wusono accused the commission for doing it deliberately in favour of the ruling APC, which he said appeared not ready for the election as earlier scheduled.
Elanza News reports that no new date has been fixed for the conduct of the election.
August 2 has been fixed for the conduct of the election.
