Cash Crunch: Nasarawa Governor Direct Banks To Make Fund Available In ATMs

Worried by the difficulties been faced in accessing money as result of the new naira swap, the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has directed all commercial banks resident in the state to make funds available in Automated Teller Machines to ease the plight of the people.

Governor Sule who was heading to Karshi Development Area, in continuation of his re-election campaign tour to rural areas, stop by at the Masaka branch of the Union Bank on Wednesday to access situation for himself.

He said, it was part of his responsibility to check on the activities of banks operating in the state, with a view to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Governor Sule maintained that, after President Muhammadu Buhari had met with the 36 state governors, including the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor on the difficulty being faced by Nigerians as a result of the redesigning of the Naira, the President assured the governors that there is no problem with the banks, that Nigerians can now access money at the banks.

“I spoke with the manager and he assured me that with the bank’s ATM card, one can withdraw up to twenty thousand naira, while customers from other banks can only withdraw ten thousand naira,” he stated.

While expressing concern with the high number of customers trapped outside the bank, the Governor Sule directed the manager of the branch, to replenish the ATM machines to enable customers access their funds.

“There are a lot of people here going through difficulty. That’s why I stopped. As you know, we are checking on the part of government. The President met with the governors yesterday and the CBN Governor and assured us there is absolutely no problem with the banks,” he stated.

He then assured customers of the bank that, money will hence forth be made available for 24 hours.

The manager equally confirmed to the Governor that, the bank made it possible for customers of Union Bank to withdraw up to twenty thousand naira, while customers from other banks can withdraw ten thousand naira only.
