President Muhammadu Buhari Government’s plain clothes Police (SSS) have called on Nigerians to be vigilant in the Sallah period, stating that terrorists are planning to bomb some strategic locations.
It is not the first time the SSS under Buhari, an agency of government which is supposed to arrest the sponsors and the perpetrators of insecurity in the country, will be making such an announcement.
Recently, there were several bombs that blasted in the North Eastern states of Taraba and Yobe, killing Nigerians but Buhari did little for the survivors.
But the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has asked Nigerians to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious activity in their locality.
Buhari campaigned to stop insecurity in Nigeria and was voted based on that promise.
The insecurity was majorly in the North East of Nigeria when Buhari emerged president in 2015 but instead of honouring his promise, insecurity have spread in different parts of the country with the North West, North Central and the South East worse hit.
Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kogi and even the federal capital territory are facing unprecedented security challenges with the president unable to stop the spread.
An Abuja-Kaduna bound train was bomb by terrorists who also kidnapped many. Some were killed while a N100 million ransom was collected from a government official before he was freed.
A pregnant woman has also been reported to have given birth at the terrorists camp, haven spent over 30 days with others in captivity.
But a statement signed by the Buhari’s group Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, in the aftermath of the security alert by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the threat of possible bomb explosions in the country, urged the citizenry to partner with the security agencies in the task of safeguarding the country.
For the past seven years, despite frequent meetings with heads of the Nigerian security agencies, managing the security of the country by Buhari has been poor, raising suspicion from some quarters about his liniency to the terrorists.
“We hail the Department of State Services DSS for living up to its responsibility of detecting plans by unscrupulous people to attack critical infrastructure as well as frequently visited public places during the festive season.
“And now that the DSS has done a part of its job, the onus is now on us all, as Nigerians, to help the security agencies and their personnel to tackle the evil ones.
“So it would be expected that community leaders and others would pay close attention to critical infrastructure in their domain in order to safeguard them.
“We urge Nigerians to be more cautious of their environment and also advise owners and managers of recreation centres to implement basic security measures to deter the threats,” the statement by the Buhari’s supporters said.
It equally commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for putting the lives of Nigerians first in all its considerations by ensuring the release of that security alert, but pundits have faulted the government actions on security that is spreading on a daily basis.
