APC: Shariff Meets Jigawa Gov, Continues Push For Party Chair

Ahead of the planned national convention of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), a frontline aspirant for the the office of the national chairmanship and former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Shariff has met with the Jigawa State governor, Abubakar Badaru.

The visit is in continuation of his consultation with party bigwigs in his bid to emerge the party’s Chairman at convention.

It would be recalled that though a founding member of the APC, Sheriff left the party in 2014 for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he emerged as its national chairman in 2016.

Some APC stakeholders however, believe that Sheriff had the capacity to lead the APC, especially with his vast political network, knowledge and experience of party administration

Sheriff had been an active politician even during the dictatorial military regime of  General Sani Abacha.

Elected twice as governor of Borno State, the APC stalwart was earlier elected senator on the platforms of the National Republican Convention jNRC) the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP ) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP).

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni is the current chairman of the caretaker committee of the party.

The committee is tasked with organising a national convention where new leaders of the party would be elected later this year.
