The Senator representing Nasarawa South at the National Assembly, Senator Umaru Al-Makura (APC Nasarawa South) has commended the organised labour for suspending the planned nationwide protest and strike.
Al-Makura gave the commendation in Lafia yesterday while he received State Executive Council (SEC) members of Nasarawa State Council of Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ).
Al-Makura who is the immediate-past governor of Nasarawa State, said suspension of the action by the organised labour has save the country from danger and given the country some sign of relief.
“This is not the base time to embark on strike given the challenges bedeviling the country, ranging from security, health and economic among others.
“This is a time that all needed to ensure that we contribute towards addressing the numerous challenges bedeviling the country,” the Senator added.
Al-Makura said the leadership of the organised labour has shown high level of patriotism by suspension the planned nationwide protest and strike and said the need to be be commended for that.
He also commended the federal government for making compromise leading to the suspension of the mass action by the organised labour.
He therefore expressed optimism that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led-aministration would bring out measures to better the living conditions of Nigerians.
Al-Makura further commended the President for efforts towards tackling insecurity in the country and called on Nigerians to support him to succeed.
The Senator representing Nasarawa South also commended members of the press for their contribution throughout his eight years as a governor and appealed to them to extent same support to Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He said with what the present governor has achieved in last one year, the state would compete with first generation states at the end of the tenure of governor Sule.
Al-makura therefore promised to continue to support the present leadership of the union where necessary to succeed.
Earlier, Salihu Alkali, NUJ Chairman said the visit was to identify with him as a former governor and Senator representing the state.
The Chairman commended the former governor for his developmental strides while in office as governor especially to NUJ Press Centre.
