After 9 Years Of Crisis, ABU SSANU Leadership Dissolved

The embattled leadership of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, ABU Zaria chapter has been dissolved.

Recall that the Union’s leadership has earlier been suspended following leadership tuzzle between two warring factions led by Comrade Ishaku Bello and Comrade Shuaibu Halilu.

In view of that,the national leadership suspended the two warring factions which brought to a standstill the activities of the union in the university.

Meanwhile, on 11th November,2021, the National Chairman of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim led a delegation to the ABU and later held a Congress meeting at Mamman Kontagora Square, with members of the union and subsequently announced the dissolution of the chapter’s executive members.

The National Chairman said “sequel to the power conferred to me, as the national chairman of SSANU, I hereby dissolved the executive members of this union in ABU Zaria.” He said.

Comrade Ibrahim then announced the appointment of 7-member committee after their nomination by the Congress, headed by Comrade Gambo Ibrahim Mukhtar to steer the affairs of the union.

He explained that the committee has 90 days of which to stabilize the union and arrange for a credible election that will be acceptable to all members of the union.

After the election by the Congress,the National Chairman,Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim led the newly elected caretaker committee to the Vice Chancellor of the university,Prof.Kabir Bala.

The Vice Chancellor assured the committee of his readiness to work with them in line with the laid down industrial and labour rules.

He applauded the effort of the National executive members of the union on their prompt intervention in the union’s impasse and urged newly elected care taker committee to work towards uniting the polarized members of the union for unity and harmonious working relationship.

Prof.Bala cautioned warring factions to shield their sword and give peace a chance for the overall progress of the union.
