The accident involved the mini-bus and a truck.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department.
Bakare-Oki said that the mini-bus collided with the moving truck near Lagos State Government Secretariat inward Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The severe impact left the driver of the mini-bus trapped in the wreckage.
“However, a swift and coordinated intervention of LASTMA officers ensured immediate rescue of other passengers, all of whom emerged unscathed.
“In a collaborative effort, LASTMA officers, alongside LASAMBUS personnel and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers, worked relentlessly to extricate the trapped driver.
“Regrettably, despite their commendable efforts, the driver was recovered lifeless.
“His remains were subsequently handed over to FRSC personnel by LASTMA officers,” he said.
He said that security operatives from the Alausa Police Division provided protection during the rescue operations.
Bakare-Oki urged strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
“This heartbreaking incident serves as a profound reminder of the dire consequences of reckless driving.
“We implore all road users to prioritise safety and exercise utmost caution.
“LASTMA extends its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased, and reiterates its unwavering dedication to promoting safer roads and preventing avoidable tragedies,” he said.
