A delegation of lecturers of Donga indigenes from the Federal University Wukari (FUW) has paid a courtesy visit to Chief Dr. Bulus Maiyaki (Makaman Donga), PhD, the director of Rural Electrification Agency and a philanthropist on the early morning of 30th December 2025 at his residence in his country home Donga, commending his consistent commitment to education, equity, and the advancement of Taraba State.
During the visit, Maiyaki, widely praised for his intellectual depth, grassroots leadership, and unwavering advocacy for fairness, passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Education, Chancellor as well as the Chairman of the University Council to appoint a qualified professor from Taraba State as the next Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Wukari, following the expiration of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor.
Maiyaki noted that Taraba State is blessed with numerous highly qualified professors, experienced, and nationally respected academics who possess the competence and integrity required to lead the institution to greater heights. He stressed that appointing an indigenous professor as the Vice-Chancellor would foster a sense of ownership, stability, and sustainable development within the university and its host community and therefore, appealed for a democratic process that is devoid of sentiment of whatever guise to usher in meritocracy and competence in the process.
He further described the appeal as a call for justice, inclusiveness, and recognition of local capacity, urging President Tinubu to consider Taraba indigenes who have distinguished themselves academically and administratively across Nigeria’s higher education system.
The visiting lecturers applauded Chief. Dr. Maiyaki for his visionary leadership and steadfast support for the academic community, describing him as a strong voice for Taraba State and a reliable advocate for policies that promote merit, fairness, and institutional growth.
