Wizkid’s album ‘Morayo’ has achieved a historic feat, crowned as Nigeria’s most-streamed album of 2025 on both Apple Music and Spotify, despite having been released in the final weeks of 2024.
The annual “Wrapped” season arrived with its usual fanfare, and the data revealed a remarkable narrative. Morayo, which debuted on November 22, 2024, carried an unstoppable momentum into the new year. It dominated playlists, topped charts week after week, and became a fixture in algorithm-driven recommendations, ultimately outperforming every Nigerian album released in 2025 itself.
This achievement places it among a rare class of projects that have topped the year-end charts in the calendar year following their release, all without the boost of a mid-year deluxe reissue.
The album’s enduring appeal is rooted in its masterful blend of sounds. A rich tapestry of Afrobeats, smooth R&B, and global influences, the 16-track project expanded Wizkid’s reach far beyond his core fanbase.
Its strength lay in a meticulously curated lineup of collaborators, each adding a distinct flavour. From Asake’s infectious street-pop energy on the fan-favourite “Bad Girl,” to Brent Faiyaz’s sultry R&B contribution on “Piece of My Heart,” and the French rap flair of Tiakola on “Aprrès Minuit,” the album crafted a universally resonant soundscape.
