The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called upon the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies to maintain their aggressive stance against terrorists, bandits, and various criminal elements threatening the nation.

This appeal was made during a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Sokoto from Jane Gimo, the newly appointed commander of the 119 Composite Group of the NAF.

The Sultan expressed the commitment of traditional leaders to support effective operations and urged the NAF commander to remain resolute in confronting the security challenges facing the region. “No society is without its difficulties, but we must do more to achieve lasting peace in this area,” he stated.

He acknowledged the substantial progress made by the NAF in combating banditry and other security threats plaguing the country, emphasizing the need for further action to address insecurity so that citizens can freely engage in their daily activities and contribute to national development.

Mr. Abubakar characterized the NAF as a vital ally in the pursuit of peace and stability throughout Nigeria. “The Sultanate Council is dedicated to fostering cooperative relationships with security agencies and other stakeholders,” he remarked.

In response, Commander Gimo indicated that her visit aimed to seek the Sultan’s blessing and promote ongoing collaboration with the Sultanate Council, which serves as the custodian of the community.

She assured that the NAF would execute prompt airstrikes as part of coordinated military efforts to combat banditry, ransom kidnappings, cattle rustling, and other crimes nationwide. Gimo committed to maintaining a strong partnership with the Sultanate Council, the state government, and other agencies to protect citizens and dismantle criminal hideouts.

She expressed gratitude to the Sultan for his exemplary leadership and moral support for the armed forces. Additionally, Gimo informed the Sultan of plans for the NAF to relocate to its permanent base along the airport road in Sokoto, a move that would enhance operational capabilities, improve airstrike effectiveness, and bolster support for ground troops engaged in counter-banditry initiatives across the region.
