A political commentator, Henry Shield, has warned that Nigeria’s opposition parties are too weak to confront President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye in Abuja on Saturday, Shield argued that the APC was unwilling to play by democratic rules.

“Tinubu is not Jonathan, he is not Buhari. Those men had a little sense of decorum and decency. This one is brutal.

“The ADC, though relatively small, remains the only platform with a slim chance of unseating Tinubu’s APC”,he said .

He cited controversies around the registration of political parties, alleging that INEC was manipulated to favour the ruling party.

“Look at how they handled the issue of a new party registration. They changed names and registered another ADA behind the scenes. This government is brutal,” Shield claimed.

The commentator dismissed the chances of the major opposition parties, insisting that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had been compromised.

“No matter the efforts of genuine leaders in PDP, the institutional leadership of the party is being funded by the other side,” he said.

When asked about Labour Party, Shield replied: “It has already been sold to the ruling party.”

He also waved aside the Social Democratic Party (SDP), laughing as he noted: “That’s the one where my friend was suspended by its own NWC.”
