The North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has expressed serious concern over the escalating costs of agricultural inputs, warning that this trend could significantly impact farm yields in 2026.

This statement was made in a communique released following the forum’s 12th meeting, chaired by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno, held on Saturday in Jalingo.

The communique emphasized that preventing an impending food crisis requires increased subsidies for farmers and better preparations for dry-season agriculture, Elanza News confirmed.

While acknowledging the notable progress made in combating insurgency in the region, the forum lamented the persistent humanitarian and infrastructural challenges faced by the subregion.

It also recognized forecasts from reputable agencies regarding climate risks and the potential for flooding in the area. Consequently, the forum called for proactive measures to address flood threats and urged significant public awareness initiatives for communities living near flood-prone areas.

Additionally, the governors sought support from the federal government and the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to repair critical infrastructure, particularly bridges.

The forum announced plans to host the North-East Trade Fair in collaboration with various organizations in Maiduguri, Borno, in December 2025.

Furthermore, the communique highlighted the establishment of a committee focused on Power and Energy, tasked with developing an integrated subregional master plan.

Reaffirming their commitment to exploring solar energy solutions as a viable option, the forum pledged to create a comprehensive subregional power master plan.
