Governor Francis Nwifuru has taken decisive action by suspending 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, and 38 aides for one month due to their absence at a significant government event.
The announcement was made on Monday evening by the governor’s chief press secretary, Monday Uzor.
Among the suspended commissioners are Stanley Mbam (Works), Leonard Uguru (Finance), Mathew Nwobashi (Lands and Survey), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Information).
The permanent secretaries facing suspension include Lawrence Ezeogo, Isioma Arunne-Inyang, Rose Ibe, Ogechi Nwobashi, Theresa Anwu, and Lynda Alo.
Additionally, fourteen senior special assistants, including Bessy Chukwu, Rose Ofoke, Kieran Ofoke, and Anthony Nwegede, have also been suspended, along with 24 special assistants such as Emmanuel Mbam, Tobias Ogbonna, Easy Okike-Uzor, Obinna Oko-Enyim, Chima Okoro, Amaechi Nwali, Henry Nwele, Isaac Ogodo-Ali, and Godwin Nwoba.
The governor emphasised that the suspensions take effect immediately and apply to all officials listed in the statement, with no exceptions. However, details regarding handover procedures were not disclosed.
