In a statement on Monday, Ambode described Buhari as a statesman who governed with the fear of God and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress.

“Former President Buhari was a statesman whose leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of our nation left an indelible mark on our history,” Ambode said.

“He led with dignity, integrity and a calm resolve, guiding the country through pivotal moments and championing the values of unity, justice, and national progress.

“President Buhari was a strong and ardent supporter of Lagos State and during my tenure as Lagos State Governor, granted several concessions to the State which demonstrated his recognition of the special status of our state.”

Ambode recalled that under Buhari’s administration, Lagos received presidential approval to upgrade the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road to a multi-carriage highway and also took ownership of federal properties such as the Presidential Lodge in Marina.

“He governed with a fear of God, an unwavering belief in the promise of our nation and a deep sense of responsibility to the people of Nigeria,” he added.

“On behalf of my family and myself, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Nigeria grieves with you and we all share in this profound loss.

“May Almighty Allah (SWT) accept his good deeds and grant him Al- Jannah Firdaus. May He also comfort his family and grant the nation the strength to bear this great loss.”
