The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, its 2023 presidential candidate, will not be contesting the presidency against incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Dr Agbo Major, the party’s National Chairman, delivered this message in a statement on Saturday, countering claims by Buba Galadima that Kwankwaso would remain with the NNPP to run for the presidency. Galadima claimed there was no proof of Kwankwaso’s alleged shift to the All Progressives Congress and called for support for his presidential bid.

Major, however, clarified that both Kwankwaso and Galadima have been expelled from the NNPP due to actions contrary to party interests. He noted that their agreement with the Kwankwasiya Movement had ended shortly after the last presidential election and that Kwankwaso’s return is not an option due to the turmoil he caused within the party.

“Kwankwaso’s actions have led to unnecessary legal challenges and attempts to seize control of the party,” Major stated. He stressed that Kwankwaso’s chances of securing a ticket for 2027 are slim, and he lacks the credentials to challenge President Tinubu effectively.

While Kwankwaso is entitled to seek political office, Major insisted he should do so independently without implicating the NNPP in his disputes with the presidency.

The NNPP is currently exploring potential candidates for the 2027 elections, with Major stating that adherence to proper procedures will be essential. He urged the public to disregard remarks from Kwankwaso and his supporters, affirming they do not represent the party.
