The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Margaret Aina Oguntala, has commended the Abuja Branch of the Society for its dedication to advancing the NSE Strategic Agenda, with a particular focus on membership development.

Speaking at the 2025 Corporate Induction Ceremony of the Abuja Branch over the weekend, Oguntala, represented by Engr. Dayyabu Tijjani, FNSE, called on newly inducted members to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism in their careers.

With the theme “Personal vs Professional Growth: The Power of Planning for 2025 and Beyond,” the ceremony highlighted the importance of intentional career planning and integrity in engineering practice.

Oguntala urged the inductees to strive for excellence in all endeavours, challenging them to become globally competitive professionals and strong representatives of the NSE.

“The world is watching, and you are ambassadors of the Nigerian Society of Engineers wherever you go,” she said.

She praised the Abuja Branch’s efforts to reinvigorate its membership, encouraging the leadership to reach out to inactive members and emphasising that every engineer has a part to play in the profession’s collective progress.

While addressing the financial obligations of members, Oguntala noted that delays in the payment of dues were affecting the smooth operation of the Secretariat.

“It is through these contributions that the day-to-day operations of the Society are sustained,” she remarked.

She also applauded the Branch for its community engagement, particularly its initiatives promoting STEM education in schools—an effort she said aligns with Pillar 5 of the NSE Strategic Agenda on Community Impact.

The NSE President further appealed to senior engineers to mentor the newly inducted members by supporting their career progression, providing opportunities for capacity building, and guiding them towards meaningful contributions in the profession.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NSE Abuja Branch, Engr. Ahmed A.S.Y. Kutigi, congratulated the inductees on reaching what he described as a major professional milestone.

He reminded them that their induction signals the beginning of a greater responsibility in shaping the future of engineering in Nigeria.

“As newly inducted members, you are now part of a distinguished community of engineers who are shaping the future of Nigeria,” Kutigi said.

He urged the new members to participate actively in the Branch’s programmes and take advantage of development opportunities through training sessions, workshops, and conferences.

The ceremony drew members of the engineering community together to celebrate the new inductees and underscore the critical role of engineers in driving national development.
