Mr. Samson Daudu, the National leader of Bassa cultural association, on Wednesday debunked a claim in some quarters that forty thousand displaced Bassa have returned to their ancestral home.

Mr. Samson disclosed this while briefing journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Recalled that Bassa and Egbura in the Toto local government area of Nasarawa State had in 2019 been engulfed with communal clashes that led to the displacement of Bassa to neighbouring states for seven (7) years.

He lamented that the concerns of the Union were for the full return of Bassa to their ancestral home, as it was claimed in some quarters.

According to Samson Daudu,” I want to acknowledge the efforts of the government for the return of Bassa to their ancestral home. The intention of returning Bassa to their home would have been very good, but our concern is about people who are good at misleading the entire public.

“Our concerns here are, over 99.9 percent of Bassa have not returned to their houses. People who claimed to have given information about the return of Bassa to their houses were misleading the public.

As I speak, you should go to Bassa communities and see whether Bassas have returned to their communities or not, as claimed in some quarters.

We are saying 99.9 percent of Bassa have not returned to their communities. They are waiting for the government’s pronouncement as regard to their return. Once that pronouncement is made, the Bassa will return to their communities.

“We are here to set the record straight, they Bassas are yearning for their return because the rainy season has set, we are in June, most of them are farmers,” he lamented.

He further appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State to hasten the process for them to begin the process of their farming.
