The National Assembly has announced that it may pass the harmonised tax reform bills as early as Tuesday, following the resolution of contentious clauses in the proposed legislation.

James Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, confirmed this development in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

Faleke, who leads the House delegation for the bill’s harmonisation process, expressed optimism regarding the timeline.

Faleke stated: “The Conference Committee established by the House and the Senate to address the Tax Reform Bills has successfully completed its work. The joint committees meticulously reviewed all sections and tackled the ambiguous areas of the four Bills, examining each clause strategically and resolving contentious issues.

“After extensive deliberations that extended through Thursday night, all day Friday, and into the early hours of Saturday, I am pleased to announce that the Bills are now ready for presentation to both the House and the Senate for final approval.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Senate Conference Committee, expertly led by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Distinguished Senator Sani Musa, as well as all members of the Senate Conference Committee.

“I also wish to express heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues on the House Conference Committee, which I had the privilege to lead, for their unwavering dedication to the Nigerian people. We are truly appreciative of your commitment and resilience in bringing this crucial task to a close.”
