Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emphasized the importance of vigilance against visa fraud among Nigerians, revealing that the UK processes around 1,500 visa applications each day from Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists at the UK-Nigeria Economic Growth Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Montgomery encouraged applicants to utilize official channels and to ensure their documentation is accurate when applying for a UK visa.

Addressing concerns regarding visa denials, he highlighted that many Nigerians continue to successfully obtain visas to travel to the UK. He noted that hundreds of thousands of Nigerians receive visas, comprising roughly 10 percent of all visitors to the UK.

According to Mr. Montgomery, the UK welcomes over 37.9 million visitors annually, with Nigeria being a significant contributor due to historical colonial connections. He remarked that the fact Nigerians represent 10 percent of UK visitors underscores the robust and growing bilateral relationship between the two nations, reflecting the profound ties that exist.

He explained that the majority of visa applications are approved when proper procedures and documentation are adhered to, stating that denials often stem from documentation issues rather than eligibility concerns.

The application process includes various categories, such as standard, priority, and super priority options. Additionally, Mr. Montgomery confirmed that legitimate business applicants have access to multiple visa pathways when following the appropriate procedures.

The British High Commissioner reiterated the embassy’s dedication to enhancing UK-Nigeria relations.
