A coalition of youth and civil society organizations in Nigeria has called on Chief Goodluck Nwaneri to contest in the 2027 general elections, citing his leadership qualities and commitment to societal progress.

The Coalition of Patriotic Youth Leaders (COPYL) and the Forum of Civil Society Organizations for a Better Nigeria made the call at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday. They described Nwaneri as a beacon of transformational leadership and urged him to represent the youth and civil society community in Imo State.

Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor, leader of the coalition, stated that Nigeria needs visionary and selfless leaders ahead of the next elections.

He urged Nwaneri to accept what he described as an “anointed mandate” to serve the people of Imo State.

“Like Joshua, who led his people into the Promised Land, we believe that Chief Nwaneri has the strength, wisdom, empathy, and passion to navigate Imo State through the challenges of governance, economic revival, and social transformation,” Nwajiofor said.

The coalition gave Nwaneri one week to respond, expressing optimism that he would accept the challenge.

Beyond endorsing Nwaneri, the coalition emphasized its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.

“We assure Chief Nwaneri and others we shall periodically unveil that it will no longer be business as usual.

The Nigerian youth and organized civil society will ensure that citizens’ votes count and that the people’s mandate stands this time around,” Nwajiofor added.

Dr. Duke Alamboye, President of the Nigeria Youth Organization, also reaffirmed the coalition’s dedication to credible leadership.

“We are setting a precedent by identifying competent individuals like Chief Nwaneri who have proven their dedication to societal progress,” he said .

Felix Tolorunju Idowu, President of the We Are United Movement of Nigeria, described the 2027 elections as a defining moment for the country.

“We need our own candidates, trusted individuals who have made significant societal impacts without government backing. The political landscape is changing, and we are ready to ensure that those who truly serve the people emerge as leaders,” he said.

The coalition emphasized that their advocacy goes beyond criticizing bad governance. They are committed to recognizing and celebrating individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership.

As the 2027 elections approach, the response of Chief Goodluck Nwaneri to this call could shape the political landscape in Imo State and beyond.
