The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, has donated 900 bags of cement to victims of last year’s fire incident at Jos market.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the incident, which occurred Nov. 2024 at the Timber Market, Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau, engulfed 107 shops.

Nentawe, represented by Mr Sunday Mark, the member representing Jos North-West constituency of the state, presented the item to the victims on Saturday in Jos.

According to the minister, the gesture, devoid of political inclination, aims at alleviating the losses incurred by the traders affected by the unfortunate incident.

“This is just my token of support for these victims to enable them to rebuild their shops and continue with their trading activities.

“This support would have come earlier, but the exigencies of work didn’t allow me to come before now.

“This gesture is not political, but my personal support to enable affected traders bounce back into business with ease,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Yusuf Umar, Chairman of the market, thanked the minister for the gesture, adding that it would go a long way in assisting those affected by the fire return to business.

Umar, therefore, urged corporate organisations, groups, and good spirited individuals to come to the aid of the affected traders, too. (NAN)
