The 1 Brigade of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, has successfully neutralized the infamous terrorist Sani Rusu in Zamfara State.
In a series of coordinated operations against terrorist activities in the region, the troops also recovered a significant cache of weapons. This information was disclosed by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, in a statement released on Monday.
On January 4, the troops undertook a fighting patrol in Bamamu village, located within the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, where they engaged in a confrontation with terrorists. During this encounter, the notorious kingpin Sani Rusu was eliminated.
On the same day, an ambush operation based on reliable intelligence regarding terrorist activities at Kwanar Jollof in the Shinkafi Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists, with others suffering serious injuries.
The operation yielded the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.
In a different operation, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted airstrikes on December 30 targeting terrorists who had gathered between the Fakai and Kware areas of Shinkafi. This airstrike was initiated following intelligence reports indicating that the terrorists, led by Bello Turji, were holding a meeting in that location.
Following up on this, on January 2, additional airstrikes were carried out in the Maikaman Rini area of the Sububu Forest, supporting ground troops in their operations against the terrorist camp of Ibrahim Chumo.
Furthermore, the troops launched offensive operations against Bello Turji’s camp in the Chida area of Shinkafi on January 5. Aerial surveillance indicated that the terrorists incurred significant losses during these operations, with numerous terrorists injured and their hideouts destroyed.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi emphasized the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to eliminate all terrorist threats within the Joint Task Force’s operational theater and reassured the public of their unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
He also urged local communities to continue their cooperation to help achieve the mission’s objectives.
