A devastating auto accident on the Baimari-Geidam Road in Yobe State has resulted in the loss of at least 12 passengers’ lives.

Mr. Livinus Yilzoom, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Yobe, confirmed the fatalities in a statement from Damaturu on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 10:00 PM on Tuesday when a Howo truck collided with a bus, registered as BAU 124 YF, near Chelluri village. Tragically, the bus caught fire, leading to the deaths of all 12 passengers on board.

Yilzoom’s preliminary investigation indicated that the truck’s obstruction on the road was the immediate cause of the crash, while excessive speed and overloading by the bus driver were identified as contributing factors.

He urged drivers to refrain from travelling at night, especially during the harmattan season, as poor visibility significantly increases the risk of accidents.
