The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle, alongside other dignitaries from Nigeria, formally received His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Cape Town, South Africa.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Special Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, it was revealed that President Tinubu is in South Africa to attend the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC).
This significant platform aims to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations between the two nations.
According to the statement, the high-level meeting underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering mutual cooperation with South Africa. The statement reads:
“The Bi-National Commission serves as a strategic framework for deepening bilateral relations, addressing shared challenges, and unlocking opportunities for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, security, education, and cultural exchange.”
During the session, President Tinubu, together with his South African counterpart, is expected to engage in productive discussions aimed at charting a course for enhanced partnership and regional stability.
“These conversations will reinforce the shared vision of Nigeria and South Africa as leaders in Africa’s collective progress and global relevance,” the statement added.
Dr Matawalle commended President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.
He also acknowledged the steadfast commitment of all stakeholders in strengthening the historic bonds between Nigeria and South Africa for the benefit of their citizens.
