President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, lauded Gowon for his outstanding contributions to Nigeria. He emphasized that the nation will always remember Gowon for his indelible impact.

Former President Obasanjo referred to Gowon as a “man of destiny” and remarked that the celebration of his birthday was a national occasion that would forever remain etched in his memory. “I thank God for granting you the strength to celebrate your 90th year while still among us,” Obasanjo stated.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar III, highlighted Gowon’s life as a model worthy of emulation, noting his significant contributions to Nigeria’s development. He praised Gowon’s dedication to the nation’s unity during his tenure as head of state.

Additionally, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, delivered a lecture titled “Building a Global Nigeria” during the celebration. He described Gowon as one of Nigeria’s greatest statesmen, a transformational leader, and a father figure for the nation. Adesina urged current leaders to strive towards creating a globally recognized Nigeria.
