In a significant show of support, the Senate voted on Thursday to express confidence in its President, Godswill Akpabio.

The motion came after Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (PDP-Kebbi) raised a Point of Order during the plenary, addressing recent rumors regarding a potential impeachment of Akpabio.

Abdullahi emphasized the baselessness of claims suggesting that northern senators were plotting against the Senate leadership. “As a senior member of the Northern Senators’ Forum, I assure you there is no faction attempting to undermine our unity,” he stated, condemning any efforts to create divisions within the institution.

He called upon his colleagues to unite in support of the Senate leadership, noting that any attempt to sow discord was detrimental to the progress of democracy. “We must resist these divisive tactics and stand together to preserve the integrity of our institution,” he urged.

Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) echoed Abdullahi’s sentiments, advocating for an official vote of confidence in Akpabio and the National Assembly’s leadership.

In response, Akpabio expressed gratitude for the senators’ solidarity, assuring them that the strong bond between them would remain unbroken despite external pressures. “No individual or social media can disrupt our unity. We are committed to justifying the confidence you have placed in us,” he affirmed.
