A former Israeli Intelligence official and regional analyst, Avi Melamed, has disclosed that the Israeli armed forces are developing a strategy to respond to the 180 ballistic missiles fired into its country by Iran.

According to the intelligence official, Israel response will be specific, especially IRGC-affiliated targets.

Melamed is a former Israeli intelligence official who went on to serve as deputy and then as senior Arab affairs adviser to Jerusalem Mayors Teddy Kollek and Ehud Olmert, operating as a negotiator during the first and second intifadas.

In an email, in response to what’s happening in the Middle East, Melamed said Israel is developing its strategy in response to last week’s Iranian attack, it increasingly appears likely that the country will aim for a significant strike against an IRGC-affiliated target.

Currently, it seems that Israel is finalising its operational plans while the U.S. prepares munitions to defensively counter any potential Iranian counterstrike.

Melamed shared: “As Israel develops its strategy in response to last week’s Iranian attack, it increasingly appears likely that the country will aim for a significant strike against an IRGC-affiliated target.

“This topic probably arose during today’s visit from CENTCOM Commander General Michael E. Kurilla and is expected to be a key point of discussion between Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and U.S. officials later this week.

“Israel’s response must balance demonstrating military strength with the need to avoid escalating tensions further, which could lead to a cycle of missile exchanges,” he said.

Speaking further, he added: The launch of over 180 ballistic missiles by Tehran requires a decisive reaction to prevent future attacks.

“Currently, it seems that Israel is finalising its operational plans while the U.S. prepares munitions to defensively counter any potential Iranian counterstrike,” he added.
