A leading Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abdurrahman Azzamfari, has denounced attempts to sabotage the efforts of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, in addressing the growing insecurity in Zamfara State.
The cleric highlighted the challenges facing the minister, urging the Muslim community in Nigeria and beyond to pray for both Dr. Matawalle and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as they face mounting opposition from groups benefiting from the violence.
During a public lecture, Sheikh Azzamfari spoke candidly about the “dangerous forces” working to perpetuate unrest, emphasizing that selfish interests and ignorance are at the heart of the ongoing conflict in Zamfara.
“This problem is like the case of two elephants fighting; who will suffer the most? The grass,” he remarked, warning that ordinary citizens are the real victims of the violence.
The cleric commended Dr. Matawalle and General Musa for their unwavering dedication to restoring peace, despite resistance from those who wish to see the violence continue.
“These individuals do not want Matawalle and General Musa to succeed. They cannot afford for them to take credit for bringing peace to the region,” Azzamfari stated.
He called on Nigerians to unite in supporting the efforts of these key figures, stressing the need for solidarity in the face of these challenges.
The Sheikh’s passionate plea for collective prayers and backing resonated with many in attendance, as he outlined the deep-seated issues fueling insecurity in the state.
Sheikh Azzamfari’s message has reaffirmed his support for the ongoing efforts of Dr. Matawalle and General Musa to restore stability, urging the public to continue praying for their success in overcoming those who stand in the way of peace.
