The Transparency Watch Initiative has called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to redeploy the Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) over high-handedness, distortion of administrative charts, and the use of non-professionals to pursue selfish interests.
The coordinator of TWI, Mr. Umar Abba, made this call during a press conference in Abuja on Sunday.
He emphasized that the group, through its intelligence findings, had discovered that the DRTS boss has perfected plans to redeploy staff perceived to be at loggerheads with his one-way traffic administrative style.
“How on earth would a director want to transfer experienced staff who are telling him the truth? The operations of the DRTS today on major roads are handled by non-staff who cause commotion at all times due to inexperience.
The operations department is headed by an educationist, as well as another educationist heading an engineering department, which goes against standards.
The online number plate processing mode is rather dubious, as most number plates collected from FRSC are shared between the director and the head of the Motor Vehicle Administration, leaving only a few for the general public.
The insurance policy he wanted online was because some insurance companies lobbied, which ordinarily falls outside of DRTS’s mandate. Incompetent officers were appointed by the Deputy Director of Operations to head area commands, against standards.
So far, the DRTS is performing below expectations.
The sooner the FCT Minister redeployes the director, the better, and completely restructure the directorate for efficiency.
The responsibilities of the Public Relations and Enlightenment Division have been given to the ICT, who are grossly incompetent. We expect timely intervention and action by the FCT Minister.
