Akpabio said, “It is a privilege to join parliamentarians from around the world in discussing the crucial theme of Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building bridges for humanitarian peace and understanding.

“In a world where 56 countries were affected by armed conflict in 2023, as reported by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the IPU Assembly serves as a vital platform for fostering parliamentary dialogue and diplomacy on a global scale, complementing the efforts of the United Nations and other multilateral forums.

“Throughout this Assembly, significant resolutions will be deliberated, including those that address the social and humanitarian implications of autonomous weapon systems and artificial intelligence, as well as initiatives to promote partnerships for climate action.

“These efforts aim to ensure access to affordable green energy while emphasizing innovation, responsibility, and equity.”
