Embracing a pragmatic approach, the committee has earmarked December 2025 as the pivotal moment to unveil the nation’s latest constitutional iteration.

This forthcoming endeavour marks the sixth instance wherein the National Assembly undertakes the task of constitutional amendment since the dawn of Nigeria’s democratic era in 1999.

Rep. Kalu underscored the committee’s cognisance of prevailing challenges, notably insecurity and economic adversities, underscoring the imperative of robust constitutional reforms.

Reflecting on past amendments, the committee’s mandate encompasses multifaceted reforms, ranging from judicial intricacies to electoral enhancements.

Noteworthy adjustments include the decentralisation of governmental responsibilities and poignant judicial realignments, pivotal for Nigeria’s evolving democratic fabric.

Acknowledging prior setbacks, Rep. Kalu articulated the committee’s resolve to address lingering issues, such as enhanced female representation in the National Assembly and the facilitation of diaspora voting rights.

Emphasising the need for proactive advocacy, the committee extends an open invitation to stakeholders, urging concerted efforts towards constitutional perfection.

Navigating Nigeria’s complex sociopolitical terrain, the committee remains attuned to public expectations, driven by a collective zeal to expedite the review process.

With a commitment to inclusivity, the committee stands poised to explore additional avenues for constitutional enhancement, ensuring a resilient democratic framework.

In fostering a culture of engagement, Rep. Kalu enjoined committee members to channel their energies towards championing constituents’ concerns and national imperatives.
