In a show of respect for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the community, the United Nigeria Chaplaincy (UNC) bestowed honour upon Barr Ifeanyichukwu Obasi-Nweze (Mmuo), a prominent figure in Ohaneze Ndigbo, during a special event held in Abuja.

The event, held at the Top Rank Hotels Galaxy, Jabi, FCT, saw a faction of the Abuja chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, under Mmuo’s leadership, organising a prayer gathering for the Ndigbo community.

Grateful for the recognition from UNC, Mmuo extended his appreciation to the members and attributed the honour to divine grace.

He encouraged fellow Ndigbo to embrace diligence and integrate spirituality into their lives, emphasising the importance of adherence to the law and fostering harmonious relationships with other ethnic groups, which he believed would enhance national unity and propel the Igbo people towards greater achievements.

Mmuo also cautioned against unnecessary conflicts arising from disputes over the title of Igbo King (Eze Ndigbo) outside Igboland, highlighting that such titles lack traditional or customary significance within Igbo culture.

He expressed concerns over individuals exploiting the title for personal gain, leading to divisions within the community.

Furthermore, he criticised deviations from the established procedures within Ohaneze Ndigbo, particularly regarding the appointment of the president general, stressing the need for adherence to due process.

Addressing the issue of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release, Mmuo advocated for his unconditional freedom, emphasising the necessity of political will from the government to facilitate his release.

He called for unified efforts from all stakeholders to secure Kanu’s freedom.

Echoing Mmuo’s sentiments, Gladys Chinyere Okoro, the woman leader, voiced her support for Mmuo’s stance on chieftaincy titles in the FCT, highlighting the disruptive nature of conflicts surrounding such titles.

She underscored the importance of unity within the organisation and hinted at upcoming empowerment initiatives, particularly for women, emphasising their pivotal role in nation-building.
