In pursuit of agricultural excellence, the women’s wing of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) appeals to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and governmental bodies for bolstered support in capacity building and extension services.

AFAN serves as the overarching entity for all agricultural and commodities associations within Nigeria.

During a press briefing in Abuja, members expressed their readiness to contribute to the current administration’s vision of achieving food security, provided they receive adequate backing.

Mrs Enitan Onitiri, AFAN’s National Women Leader, articulated the group’s alignment with the government’s agricultural policies.

This synergy aims not only to enhance food availability, affordability, and accessibility but also to foster job creation and alleviate poverty, particularly among women and youths.

She emphasised, “Our nationwide network of women within AFAN, spanning all 36 states and the FCT, stands poised to forge historic partnerships with development entities, NGOs, private enterprises, government bodies, and philanthropists.

Together, we aim to revolutionise Nigeria’s food system and improve the welfare of women in agriculture.

Our approach prioritises sustainable farming practices, driven by climate-smart techniques and nutritional value, capable of meeting local demands and international standards.”

Highlighting the potential impact of women in agribusiness, Mrs Onitiri underscored the pivotal role of strategic collaborations.

She urged women’s organisations, both public and private, to join forces with AFAN in enhancing agricultural proficiency, facilitating agro-export ventures, ensuring market access for agricultural produce, cultivating exotic vegetable farming, and promoting farm mechanisation.
