Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday killed a wanted notorious kidnapper, Sunday Amadi, popularly known as “Occasion” and a member of his gang during a raid in their hideout the forest of Emohua local government area of the state.
Amadi, who is suspected to be behind series of kidnappings along the East-West Road in Emohua, had a N2 miilion bounty placed on his head by the Chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the policemen during the raid, also rescued four kidnap victims, who had spent more than 48 hours in captivity.
It was further gathered that one of the victims, who sustained injuries while in the kidnappers’ den, was immediately moved to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for medical attention.
The victims told the police operatives that they were blindfolded throughout their stay in the kidnappers den, adding that their captors tortured them and extracted huge amount of money, ranging from N800,000 to N1,900,000, from them and their families without releasing them.
Speaking shortly after visiting the injured kidnap victim at the hospital, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the men of the Command for their professionalism and persistence in bringing criminals to their knees.
Disu, who stated that the Rivers State Police Command under his watch would stop at nothing to rid the state of criminals, assured the rescued victims of proper post-rescue care from the Command.
He expressed the readiness of the men of the Command to flush out every kidnap syndicate or gang in the state.
The Police Commissioner reiterated his assurance to Rivers people to enjoy the yuletide freely as the state command has escalated patrols in the state and will not back down on the resolve to make Rivers State crime-free.
He encouraged everyone intending to visit the state for Christmas to do so without fear.
