In a highly charged legal drama, speculations arise over the possibility of EFCC arresting former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele as he appears in court on Friday.

This follows his release last week, November 8, after almost five months in detention due to corruption allegations.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi emphasized the need to end detention without trial, ordering Emefiele’s release on November 8.

The court challenged the federal government’s claim of fresh charges, deeming it speculative. Notably, a conflicting date on the remand order raised questions.

The court, citing Section 298(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, asserted its power to make necessary orders despite remand orders.

Emefiele’s release was directed to a team of three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), with conditions including surrendering his passport and appearing in court on November 17.

On June 10, the Department of State Security (DSS) arrested Emefiele, a day after his suspension as CBN governor.

Despite constitutional limits on detention, investigations into corruption allegations led to a prolonged custody period.

President Bola Tinubu’s suspension, subsequent arrest, and legal proceedings in Lagos and Abuja unfolded as part of this complex narrative.

Justice Adeniyi’s November 2 directive compelled the EFCC to produce Emefiele for the bail application hearing.

His transfer from DSS to EFCC custody remains shrouded in mystery, leaving questions about the motive behind the potential rearrest.
