The First Lady’s initiative was a week-long program aimed at creating awareness and providing support to all cancer patients currently admitted. She visited Barau Diko Teaching Hospital and provided cash support to over 50 patients on Tuesday.

During her visit to the Kaduna State-based teaching hospital, she shed tears of love and prayed for Allah’s perfect healing for all patients.

Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, the Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Sani, stated in an interview shortly after the visit, “This visit was the First Lady’s initiative. She is here to sympathize with and encourage those affected by this unwanted illness. They should not lose hope because this illness is not a death sentence.”

“We urge women to come forward for proper tests to prevent breast cancer. If you cannot do it at home, come to the hospital for a thorough checkup when you notice any changes in your breast.”

Furthermore, in breast cancer, there is often early detection. People should learn to perform self-examinations at home as soon as they notice any changes.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner of Health, Hajiya Umma Kaltume Ahmed, informed cancer patients of an 80 percent readiness of the Cancer Center at the Millennium City, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

She stated, “The Center is nearing completion, with over 300 beds. We encourage women to come forward for breast examinations.”

“Cancer can manifest in various parts of the human body, which consists of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and multiply through a process called cell division to replace old or damaged cells. However, sometimes this process breaks down, and abnormal or damaged cells start to grow and multiply when they shouldn’t. These cells can form tumors, which may be benign or cancerous.”

“Cancerous tumors can invade nearby tissues and even spread to other parts of the body, a process known as metastasis. These tumors may also be referred to as malignant. While many cancers form solid tumors, blood cancers like leukemia usually do not.”

“Benign tumors, on the other hand, do not invade nearby tissues. When removed, benign tumors typically do not recur.”
