The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otukpo, Chief Superintendent, CSP, John Adikwu, along with three brave police officers, tragically lost their lives in a brutal Friday afternoon heist.

This ruthless attack targeted branches of five different banks, namely Access Bank, First Bank, Zenith Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Stanbic IBTC Bank.

A gang of armed robbers meticulously executed this coordinated operation, striking fear into the hearts of Otukpo’s residents.

As chaos unfolded, men of the Benue Police Command courageously confronted the assailants in a fierce gun battle along Otukpo-Taraku road.

In the process, they managed to neutralize two of the criminals, although it came at a great cost.

CSP John Adikwu and his dedicated team valiantly engaged the suspected robbers in a desperate gun duel.

Despite their unwavering commitment, they couldn’t prevent the ruthless assault on the banks. However, their bravery did not go unnoticed.

Additional police units, in collaboration with other security agents, were swiftly dispatched to Otukpo to stabilize the situation and prevent the robbers from escaping.

The criminals found themselves cornered along the perilous Otukpo-Taraku road, facing the relentless pursuit of our law enforcement.

A dramatic showdown unfolded on that remote road. Our officers engaged the robbers in a relentless gunfight, leaving two of the criminals dead.

Despite this, the remaining members of the gang were not willing to surrender easily. They abandoned their vehicles and fled into the dense forest, where they sought refuge.

This deadly confrontation extracted a heavy toll on our brave officers.

CSP John Adikwu, who showed unwavering resolve despite sustaining a gunshot injury to his stomach, succumbed to his injuries.

Additionally, three other valiant police officers paid the ultimate price in their line of duty. Their sacrifice will forever be remembered.

The pursuit of justice continues, as our dedicated law enforcement agencies are relentless in their pursuit of the remaining criminals.

We remain resolute in our commitment to bringing all those involved in this heinous act to justice.

As the dust settles on this tragic incident, those who sustained injuries during the operation are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

The community of Otukpo and the entire nation are united in mourning the loss of our brave officers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families during this difficult time.

This harrowing event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
