The Nigerian Delta People’s Assembly (NDPA) has called upon the public to disregard the orchestrated protests against Engr. Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, accusing a traditional ruler and oil barons of ulterior motives that conflict with NNPCL’s commendable decisions under Kyari’s leadership.

NDPA passed a vote of confidence in Mele Kolo Kyari’s leadership, lauding his efforts to cleanse and rejuvenate Nigeria’s oil industry.

The alleged protests were sparked by the refusal to renew a pipeline surveillance contract, an issue that Mele Kyari’s ongoing reforms address.

The protest, led by a self-proclaimed monarch and oil barons, was critiqued as having no substantial impact due to its disorganization, lack of numbers, and unclear objectives.

The monarch’s motivation seemed tied to his pipelines surveillance contract, which Mele Kyari deemed unworthy of renewal due to inefficiency.

The misguided nature of the protest was highlighted, with the so-called youth groups being labeled as non-existent fabrications.

The protest raised concerns about financial impropriety and lack of vision within NNPCL, which were refuted with Mele Kyari’s clean bill of health following numerous audits.

Mele Kyari’s dedication to rehabilitating Nigeria’s refineries and increasing crude oil production was noted, with expected results by December 2023.

Mele Kyari’s success in combatting oil theft and vandalism was acknowledged, earning him recognition from various stakeholders.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s continued endorsement of Mele Kyari highlighted the latter’s resourcefulness, astuteness, and commitment to the Renewed Hope mantra in the oil industry.

Mele Kyari’s decision to award pipelines rehabilitation and surveillance contracts to a consortium of oil firms was a testament to his commitment to the nation’s energy security.
A Monarch’s Frustration:

The monarch’s discontent stemmed from Mele Kyari’s refusal to renew his non-performing pipelines surveillance contract.

In Mele Kyari’s regime, the era of collecting substantial sums for unexecuted jobs ceased, causing frustration to those who had previously benefited.

The monarch’s attempts to bypass the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) were fruitless, leading to his isolation by both NUPRC and NNPCL.

NDPA urged President Buhari to disregard the media hype surrounding the protest, recognizing it as a futile attempt by a frustrated monarch.
