2023; Sumaila Suleiman, Kaduna North Federal Constituency Unique Legislative Performance and the Need for Continuity

The people of Kaduna North Federal constituency had a sigh of relief in the last eight years, not only on the platform, but in the character and quality of representation in their federal lawmaker, Rt Honorable Sumaila Suleiman whom they have so much confidence in his promises and actions towards beqeuathing an egalitarian society to the people of the area.
For close to a decade, what the people had sustained and benefitted interms of empowerment, capacity building, high profile enterpreneurial development, which included skill development, acquisition and charitable donations and contributions had placed the people as one of the beneficiaries of genuine dividends of democracy in kaduna north federal constituency.
As a seasoned politician of utmost sincerity and high repute with grassroot exposure, the federal lawmaker had placed the welfare of his people at top priority in all areas of social services ranging from Health, Education, Electricity supply to mitigate and encourage small scale businesses among many others, including promotion of macro and micro economic activities in line with the operations of the people that had improved not only their economic and social prowess, but it’s security in all ramifications.
Rt Honorable Sumaila Suleiman who had served concsentiously as a local government Chairman that later transmuted to a federal lawmaker, did not take advantage of his political acceptance and prowess to deceive his teeming supporters, rather took advantage and opportunities to do more for the all round development of the society.
Based on the general acceptance, the federal lawmaker’s representation twice elected consecutively for eight years on the platform of APC, was as a result of a vote of confidence passed on his personal qualities and achievements, that was later extended to his new platform when he defected to PDP in the last primary election, and was still returned in a keenly contested national assembly primary held some few months ago.
With his new platform, flying the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party PDP is a familiar terrain having managed the people diligently over the years with provision of social services and amenities, infrastructural development, charity, empowerment, employment opportunities, capacity building and Enterpreneurial training to all sundry in kaduna north federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
With the laudable constituency projects along with human capital development, the need for continuity became germane under the leadership of Rt Honorable Sumaila Suleiman to continue to pilot the affairs of the area beyond the current dispensation in May 2023.
The post COVID gesture and succour extended to the people of Kaduna North constituency through the wanton donation of chunk of 100M to the people of the Constituency was unique in all areas, and novel in the entire country.
This was coming at a time when Nigeria in its entirety, the global world had witnessed many months of COVID and lockdowns that led to the decapitation, dilapidation of both major, medium and small scale businesses that was the bane of the survival of our societies and communities.
The whopping 100M donated to 10,O00 constituents trickled down to many other empowerment activities of the federal lawmaker had returned life not only to normalcy, but activities in the area back to the good old days of pre- COVID in Kaduna North constituency.
With few days to Saturday the 25th of February, 2023 to both the Presidential and National Assembly elections, no doubt the opportunity for continuity had again provided it self for the re-election of Rt Honorable Sumaila Suleiman of PDP for Kaduna North Federal constituency.
A vote for him, will be a vote for continuous economic and social liberation, consolidation of the gains already achieved in the area of enterpreneurial development, promotion of small scale businesses, skill development, acquisition, capacity building and training in all areas of community development.
Vote Wisely, for Sumaila Suleiman of PDP, Kaduna North Federal Constituency of Kaduna State for purposeful continuity and robust leadership in the area.
A coalition of youth organisations has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to reconsider its wanted tag on socialite, Dr Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, OFR.
The organisations, Niger Delta Youth Council for Good Governance and Middle Belt Youth Stakeholders’ Initiative said this in a joint press statement they issued on Thursday in Abuja.
According to them, the declaration of Achimugu wanted by the anti-corruption agency came to them as a rude shock.
The joint statement was signed by Comrade Emma Niboro and Ali Ameh for Niger Delta Youth Council for Good Governance and Middle Belt Youth Stakeholders’ Initiative, respectively.
They described Achimugu as a dedicated friend of the youths, who had always shown commitment to the welfare and care of the downtrodden.
According to the youth coalition, “we know the Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, as a man who came with utmost zeal to sanitize the agency. He has already demonstrated this and we are proud of his achievements so far.
“However, we urge him to resist pressure from politicians, which is a plague that has dwarfed EFCC for several years of its existence.
“The commission had hitherto remained a tool for politicians to undue their perceived political foes and this has always rubbed off on the credibility of the agency.
“The case of Achumugu doesn’t appear to be different in any way, as the haste with which she was declared wanted showed there is a hand of Esau and voice of Jacob.
“Our appeal is that the commission should withdraw the wanted tag on her and give her ample time to report to the commission, as she has never been indicted of any offence whether in Nigeria or outside the country.”
While noting that Achimugu is a global figure, they added that they can always vouch for her integrity.
“We know her, she has always been of immense help to the youths and other members of the society.
“Her closeness to certain politicians should not be used as a tool to persecute or harass her,” the youths further stated.
The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision that recognised Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). In a decisive ruling, a five-member panel declared that the Court of Appeal lacked the legal authority to determine the party’s leadership matters.
In a unanimous verdict, the highest court in the land stated that the Court of Appeal had no jurisdiction over the matter. The panel observed that since the case revolved around the internal leadership structure of the Labour Party, it fell outside the jurisdiction of the courts.
The ruling reinforced the long-standing principle that leadership disputes within political parties should be resolved internally, rather than through judicial intervention.
The Supreme Court stressed that leadership struggles within political parties are purely internal matters. According to legal principles, courts should not interfere in such issues, as they fall under the party’s constitution and governance framework. By upholding this legal doctrine, the apex court reaffirmed that political parties must settle their leadership crises independently.
The Supreme Court upheld the appeal lodged by Senator Nenadi Usman and a fellow appellant, ruling that their claims were valid. Their appeal challenged the earlier judgment, arguing that it was flawed due to jurisdictional overreach. After thorough legal scrutiny, the Supreme Court found merit in their argument and ruled in their favour.
The legal battle also involved a cross-appeal filed by supporters of Julius Abure, who sought to challenge the decision against their leader. However, the Supreme Court dismissed this cross-appeal, declaring it unsubstantiated and lacking merit. The ruling effectively ended the legal contest over the Labour Party’s chairmanship, cementing the judiciary’s stance on non-interference in party leadership disputes.
