The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports in Minna Monday that the three-day seminar was entitled: “Enhancing Training and Operations through Doctrinal Imperative in a Joint Environment”.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, said that TRADOC was responsible for development and evaluation of doctrine and force structure for the Nigerian Army.

He said: “there is the need to re-align its thought process in areas of training, operations, administration and logistics”.

Yahaya, represented by Maj. Gen. Kamilu Kadiri, Director-General, Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Center, Abuja, explained that the seminar was to broaden the knowledge and perspectives on how to do things in line with the doctrine training policy for effective performance of the Nigerian Army.

He said: “we are in an era where global conflicts have moved from the known conventional nature to the third, forth and fifth generational realms,

He explained that the “situation needs a paradigm shift from the classical battlefields conventional deployment between two opposing forces”.

He said: “to maintain our effectiveness, the Nigeria Army must train and retrain as well as plan its operations in consonance with its doctrine and training policy”.

Yahaya added that the bedrock for any army lay on training which was focused on professionalism and guided by doctrine.

He said that most of the failed battles recorded were either traceable or ascribable to inadequate, improper or lack of requite training.

He noted that to ensure efficient training and combat efficiency of the Nigerian Army, army’s divisions must be progressively evaluated as well as ensure that, timely doctrinal evaluation of the army’s operations are conducted.

He said that the need to ensure that material are accurately delivered to troop at the right time, right place in the right condition, especially in battle situation was crucial.

The army boss urged participants to contribute positively, saying that the knowledge gained would help in the development of the army in general.

Earlier in his welcome address, Maj. Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army in Niger, said that the seminar was to set the pace for training and doctrinal development activities in the command as well as guide the Nigerian Army in general.

He added that the objectives of the seminar was to highlight issues that bordered primarily on key aspects of the military affairs such as training, operations, administration, logistics and their impact on the effectiveness of the force.

Olabanji said that the seminar was also aimed at developing capacity of participants and all personnel towards harnessing their skills and contribution to the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army.
