As preparations for the 2027 campaign gets underway, Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu has appealed to politicians to use their achievements and what they intend to do going forward as the yardstick for approaching people rather than resulting to insults and provocative languages.
Governor Ahmed who gave the charge Friday in Sokoto said, as for him and his party, they would use their competed, ongoing and newly initiated projects to
campaign for re-election, saying the the opposition should do same.
A statement by Abubakar Bawa, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to governor Ahmed Aliyu quoted his principal as urging supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to remain law-abiding and conduct their political activities with due respect for human dignity and in strict compliance with the law.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will rely on the people-oriented projects executed by this administration to seek re-election in the forthcoming general elections”, Governor Ahmed said.
While noting that
the APC had numerous achievements to showcase to the electorate and every reason to seek another mandate to sustain and expand the laudable projects executed across the length and breadth of the state, the governor sued for decorum within the electioneering period.
“We will ensure decorum in our campaign language and refrain from insulting anyone. Just as our administration would continue to listen to the yearnings and aspirations of the people and remain responsive to their needs in the overall interest of the state’s development.
The Governor also challenged opposition parties to tell the electorate what they achieved for the people while in power rather than resorting to campaigns of calumny.
He further cautioned political actors against using the guise of freedom of expression to infringe on the fundamental human rights of others in the course of political campaigns.
The governor who alsobtjankee the people of the State for their continued support and confidence in his administration, assured that he remained committed to protecting the rights and dignity of every citizen of the state.
“We owe it a duty to protect our dear state from anyone who seeks to destroy it”.
