A senior journalist with Xinhua News Agency, Wang Hongjiang, has called for expanded content exchange between Xinhua and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to promote greater understanding of China-Africa relations.
Hongjiang made the call on Friday in an interview with NAN on the sidelines of the Seminar on Broadcasting Convergence and Communication Capacity Building for Young Nigerian Media Professionals in Beijing, China.
NAN reports that the two-week seminar, which has 28 participants from six Nigerian media organisations, is being held from Sept. 9 to Sept. 22.
Hongjiang said although the two agencies had established stable cooperation, more could be done to highlight the successes of China-Africa relations.
“I think we can do more by using more stories of each other.
“As Xinhua News Agency does well in telling Chinese stories, and NAN uses such stories, we also get to use Nigerian stories told by NAN because we have limited staff there.
“We can use your excellent stories about Nigeria, and we can exchange our reporting and products so that both of us get the benefit from the win-win cooperation.
“Maybe we can form a step-by-step method to use each other’s products, such as text products, photos and video products.
“We can also expand the volume because, in the past, we had limited numbers in exchange, so it can be expanded,” he said.
The senior journalist also urged the two agencies to strengthen cooperation on social media platforms, noting the growing interest of young people in China and Africa in digital platforms.
“In the coming years, we can invite NAN to open its own account on Chinese platforms, like Xinhua’s platforms.
“NAN can open columns on our platforms, and also we can join hands, like following each other on the biggest platforms, like TikTok, and even on Chinese platforms such as WeChat and Little Red Book.
“We can also maybe borrow each other’s experience and hold meetings annually to draw experiences from each other,” Hongjiang said.
