The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the death of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, who was allegedly attacked with sharp objects by unknown hoodlums at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were arrested following an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Kumbotso Police Division, tactical units and community stakeholders after the incident was reported at about 11.30pm on Monday, September 8, 2026. Danshagamu was rushed to Murtala Mohammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to him, the command received a distress call from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group that unknown hoodlums had forcibly entered the deceased’s residence and attacked him.

Operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division immediately responded to the scene and evacuated the victim to the hospital.

However, a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.

Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The operation subsequently led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the incident.

The suspects, the police said, are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.

“Statements are being obtained, and forensic procedures are ongoing to establish the full facts and motive behind the attack,” the statement added.

The command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend other persons who might have participated in the crime.

Bakori expressed concern over the incident and condoled with the family of the deceased.

He vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property.

“We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” the CP stated.

The command also commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for providing timely information which enabled the police to respond swiftly.

It said the development underscored the importance of community participation in crime prevention.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency lines.

The command said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed to Gaida and neighbouring areas to maintain peace and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

It added that investigation was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
