Takum Local Government Chairman, Hon. Bako Benjamin, led an inspection team to the proposed Naval Base site in Kashimbila on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, marking significant progress in the security project for Southern Taraba.
The assessment tour, conducted alongside officials from the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) and a military delegation led by Brigadier General E. Bawa, evaluated the strategic location’s suitability for the facility. General Bawa briefed the team on the base’s potential to enhance security and stimulate development across Takum, Southern Taraba, and neighbouring communities.
TAGIS officials performed benchmark and demarcation exercises at the site, laying critical groundwork for the project’s implementation. The delegation also reviewed technical and logistical requirements necessary for the base’s operational take-off.
Following the inspection, Chairman Benjamin underscored the base’s transformative potential: “This establishment will significantly strengthen security, enable effective surveillance, and boost socio-economic activities throughout Kashimbila and surrounding communities.”
As part of the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Third-Class Chief of Kashimbila, His Royal Highness Alhaji Zakari Musa, who offered his blessings and support for the initiative.
“I remain committed to collaborating with all stakeholders, including security agencies and traditional institutions, to ensure projects that deliver peace and prosperity to our people are realised,” Benjamin affirmed.
The Naval Headquarters approved the Kashimbila base establishment several weeks ago as part of broader efforts to secure inland waterways, curb criminal activity along the Benue River corridor, and support federal government development programmes in Taraba State.
