The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused the Tinubu Presidency of misleading Nigerians by claiming that United States President Donald Trump commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in combating terrorism.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, insisted that President Trump merely responded to a letter from the Nigerian leader and acknowledged his stated commitment to fighting terrorism—not any tangible achievement.

“The Tinubu Presidency brazenly distorted the content and context of a letter from the President of the United States in a bid to launder the battered image of this administration,” Yusuf said.

The APM’s careful reading of President Trump’s July 6, 2026 correspondence reportedly shows that the US leader only applauded President Tinubu’s resolve—not his performance. The letter states: “Thank you for your thoughtful letter… I applaud your resolve to tackle the issues plaguing your nation, especially the violence affecting Christian communities…”

The APM challenged the Presidency to identify any passage in the letter where President Trump celebrates concrete results against terrorists.

“The distinction is clear: President Trump acknowledged Tinubu’s resolve—he did not endorse his performance. A commitment is not an achievement,” the party stated.

Since December 2025, when President Trump called for decisive action against terrorism in Nigeria, President Tinubu has written letters, issued statements and made promises, yet terrorists continue to kill, maim and kidnap innocent citizens with impunity, the APM argued.

The party counselled the Federal Government to stop hiding behind statements of commitment and begin delivering measurable results, warning that Nigerians have already made up their minds to vote President Tinubu out in 2027.

“We reject these propaganda tactics designed to give President Trump and other world leaders the false impression that Nigeria’s security challenges are under control,” Yusuf added.

The APM urged the Presidency to match commitment with action and be honest with Nigerians and the international community about the worsening security situation under President Tinubu’s watch.
